How to improve
- Consider carefully any criteria that is not validated and the reasons for this.
- Seek help from your assessor to help you identify how you can improve.
- Read all feedback carefully.
- Keep trying and you will keep improving.

Trainers - How to implement Employability Skills Assessment
Hint: Don’t fall into the trap of getting bogged down trying to design special activities to develop and assess Employability Skills. Use any of your existing activities and focus your energy on helping students learn the ‘process’ of self assessing their Employability Skills. This will ultimately be far more beneficial than any single, well designed lesson or activity you develop, because it will equip students with an assessment technique that they can use in any situation and at any time … forever.
Try the following…
- Work through a validated self assessment as a class to introduce the validated self assessment process.
- Most people find it daunting and overwhelming at first but with guidance and encouragement they will soon become accustomed to the process and benefit greatly from using it.
- Offer lots of feedback and opportunities to discuss the process with students.
- Discuss the meaning and outcomes of a validated self assessment as a group.
- Incorporate others in the ‘validation’ process including peers, industry experts, community members, other educators from the organisation.
- Identify specific activities for students to use to self assess their Employability Skills OR let them choose their own.
- Apply assessment to specific Units of Competence OR a choice of activities across a whole qualification.
- Focus on Performance Level 1 to begin with until students become familiar with the self assessment process.
- Identify recommended activities suited to Employability Skills demonstration for students to consider.
